Making a Difference in Mental Health
At IDRAAC, we are committed to transforming lives through research, awareness, and treatment. Our work has reached thousands of individuals, breaking mental health stigmas and providing much-needed support to those in need.
Our Achievements
For more than four decades, IDRAAC has been at the forefront of advancing mental health research, care, advocacy, and policy development in Lebanon and the Middle East. Our work combines scientific evidence, community-based services, capacity building, and advocacy to create lasting change in mental health and psychosocial well-being.
Over 40 years of pioneering mental health research in Lebanon and the Middle East, contributing to a stronger understanding of mental health needs, risk factors, and effective interventions.
Expanding access to mental health and psychosocial support, with vulnerable and underserved populations benefiting from free mental health consultations, psychosocial support, awareness activities, and community-based interventions.
Leading nationwide mental health research, including being the first organization to conduct national studies examining the prevalence and impact of mental health disorders in Lebanon.
Building strong local and international partnerships to advance research, strengthen mental health systems, expand access to services, and develop innovative programmes.
Over the years, IDRAAC's funding and programming partners have included the German Federal Foreign Office (GFFO) through partners including HelpAge International and HelpAge Germany; the International Rescue Committee (IRC); the World Bank; the PROSPECTS Partnership, funded by the Kingdom of the Netherlands; humedica International; the European Union; the Middle East Partnership Initiative (MEPI); USAID; the Lebanese Ministry of Public Health (MoPH); the Lebanese Ministry of Social Affairs (MoSA); the National Council for Scientific Research – Lebanon (CNRS-L); the Crisis and Support Centre of the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs; ACTED; The Asfari Foundation; the Australian Embassy Direct Aid Program; the National Institutes of Health (NIH); the French Embassy in Lebanon; UNODC; UNFPA; the European Union – Afkar II MED Programme; as well as unrestricted grants and private donations.
Turning evidence into policy and systemic change. Through research, technical expertise, advocacy, and collaboration with national stakeholders, IDRAAC has contributed to important developments in Lebanon, including:
the Mental Health Law; legislation related to the rights and protection of older persons; and contributions related to workplace legislation and policy through the Mental Health in the Workplace initiative.
Through these achievements, IDRAAC continues to work toward a future where mental health is recognized as an essential part of health and well-being, quality services are accessible to all, and policies are informed by evidence, dignity, and the needs of communities.
