GFFO - Help Age intl /germany

Between July 2022, 2024, and June 30, 2025, The German Federal Foreign Office (GFFO) has been funding IDRAAC, through its partners, HelpAge International and HelpAge Germany,  to provide humanitarian assistance to address critical gaps in healthcare, mental health services and gender-based violence services for the most vulnerable groups, in particular older people and people with disabilities.

IDRAAC, funded by the Lebanon Financing Facility administered by the World Bank, in partnership with the International Rescue Committee and the National Mental Health Programme at the Ministry of Public Health, has implemented two projects: "Mental Health in the Workplace" starting January 2023 and ending January 2024, Training of Trainers and Self-Help Plus (SH+) intervention developed by the World Health Organization  between November 2023, and February 2024.

CBR

In 2023, between January 3, and October 31, IDRAAC, funded by the Lebanon Financing Facility administered by the World Bank, in partnership with the International Rescue Committee created the first Community Based Rehabilitation (CBR) portal that bridges resource gaps, fosters local governance, and empowers marginalized communities with improved access to essential services. The CBR initiative was rolled out across Lebanon, targeting underserved and marginalized communities, ensuring accessibility and inclusivity in the identification and referral of services.

As part of the Emergency Response 2024-2025, the Disasters Emergency Committee, through its charities has raised funds and provided vital assistance through our partners, Age International and HelpAge International, in terms of winterization kits, WASH, and MHPSS services to internally displaced people located in Beirut and Mount Lebanon.

In light of the escalation of the conflict that hit the Southern region of Lebanon and Baalbeck between December 1, 2024, and June 30, 2025, that has resulted in the internal displacement of over 1.4 million people, the Crisis and Support Centre of the Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs, with the support of our partners Acted, has provided basic assistance support and MHPSS services to Older People who are internally displaced in Beirut and Mount Lebanon. 

Between April 2023 and July 2024, The USAID-funded Lebanon Civic Action Accelerator Program (LEB-CAAP) project, A Gateway to Better Mental Health for Human Rights’ Defenders, in collaboration with SIDC Lebanon, aimed to empower and support frontline workers in Lebanon by providing MHPSS awareness sessions, training, and free mental health consultations based on assessments conducted with social workers. Additionally, a framework for establishing wellness committees was designed and implemented to support CSOs.

The Elderly Empowerment Project,

The Asfari Foundation, a UK-based grant-making charity that focuses its efforts in the Levant and UK, has played a pivotal role in enhancing IDRAAC’s digital capacity through the Go Digital 2020 project starting November 13, 2020, till June 1, 2021, which led to the creation of its portal. Additionally, through its Tabadol Program, the foundation funded The Elderly Empowerment Project, which mapped organizations that already include or are willing to incorporate older people within their initiatives. 

Starting August 2024 and ongoing until July 2025, IDRAAC, with funding from Reporters Without Borders and in collaboration with the Beirut Press Freedom Center, provided training sessions and group support for journalists exposed to traumatic events.

TEC-MED project

From September 1, 2019, till August 31, 2022, The TEC-MED project, “TEC-MED Project - Development of a Transcultural social-ethical-care model for Dependent Population in Mediterranean Basin“, was funded by the European Union under the ENI CBC Med Program (Total budget: €3.3 million & EU contribution: €2.9 million) and involved 6 countries (Spain, Italy, Greece, Tunisia, Lebanon, Egypt). The project aimed at developing an innovative transcultural social-care model aiming at upgrading the daily operations of social enterprises and collaboration with public administrations in the care of elderly at risk of exclusion

In September 2020, Johnson & Johnson has funded IDRAAC’s psychosocial support services for individuals and healthcare workers impacted by COVID-19 and the August 4 Beirut blast, covering both psychological and psychiatric care.

In 2021, HelpAge International and the GFFO have supported IDRAAC in implementing community-based health and protection interventions for at-risk Syrian refugees and host community members in Beirut and Mount Lebanon, with a focus on older adults and persons with disabilities. Services included healthcare, mental health support, and gender-based violence protection

In 2020, Adyan funded IDRAAC’s post-crisis response to the Beirut Port explosion through the “We Stand with Beirut” initiative, providing immediate mental health and psychological support to affected populations.
