Assessed the state and death anxiety of 23 Egyptian male surgical patients (mean age 36.21 yrs) before and after surgery. The Death Anxiety Scale and the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory were administered individually 24 hrs before and 5 days after surgery. Death and state anxiety were significantly higher before than after surgery. Implications for the treatment of surgical anxiety are discussed. (English abstract)
