Abstract : Intelligence tests were administered to 2 groups of 22 Lebanese children aged between 4 and 5 years. The " experimental" group were known to have suffered from malnutrition during the, first 18 months of life, and the control group were well nourished but otherwise matched for age, sex, ethnic group and parents' age and educational level. Significant differences were found between the IQs of the experimental (mean IQ = 79) and the control group (mean IQ = 103). The experimental group were also late, in walking and talking compared with the controls. The authors themselves point out that they have not examined the parents' attitudes, or the reasons why in socially equivalent groups some children become undernourished. Erica F. Wheeler
