Two groups of Near Eastern students were examined to see if there is evidence for a generalized ethnocentric factor. Although ethnocentrism characterizes the culture of the Near East, no evidence was found that a generalized personality factor was present. The author concludes that while students maintained considerable social distance from national religious groups other than their own, they are not necessarily hostile toward out-groups.
