Abstract 73 psychiatric inpatients (mean age 38.9 yrs) completed the Beck Suicide Ideator Scale, Beck Hopelessness Scale, and MMPI Depression scale. As hypothesized, suicide intent was significantly more correlated with hopelessness than with depression. When the effect of hopelessness was removed statistically, there was no relationship between suicide intent and depression. (7 ref) (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2016 APA, all rights reserved)
