Traces the history of Arabian medicine, which profoundly influenced Greek thought through the 17th century. Arabian medicine and psychiatry are distinguished by their sympathy toward the patient and the emphasis placed on the psychological aspect of any disease. Arabians also possessed sophisticated psychiatric institutions that were introduced to Europe through Spain in the 16th and 17th centuries.
