Describes the social and psychiatric phenomena resulting from the 1975-1976 civil war in Lebanon. Clinically, there was a general drop in admission to psychiatric hospitals along with an increase of psychiatric referrals to private practitioners and general hospitals following the hostilities. A number of posttraumatic symptoms, particularly depression, were seen in therapy, along with a significant increase in drug addiction and alcoholism. Comparisons to other recent conflicts and disasters are made.
