Commends J. Westermeyer (see record 1986-12026-001) on his success in covering depression in a limited and short text. Depression is discussed in terms of its prevalence, predisposing or etiologic factors, chronicity, cultural and genetic background, mania and bipolar patients, depressive symptoms and schizophrenia, therapy, drug therapy, and the variability of studies. It is suggested that the association between anxiety and depression should have been evaluated by Westermeyer. (9 ref)
