Elaborates on an article by L. Swartz et al (see PA, Vol 73:8045) regarding the use of the Present State Examination (PSE) in a multicultural context by discussing the present author's own experience translating the PSE into Arabic for use in a study of life events and schizophrenia and by describing difficulties associated with the use of the translated scale.
