Descriptions of the status of mental health counseling and their implications in the Middle East are developed. The major assumption is that the need for counseling increases as societies change. Cultural patterns and attitudes that affect the field are discussed in terms of women's roles in Middle Eastern society, vocational concerns, and vocational choice.
