Attempted to objectify and quantify the effect of piracetam on the memory of patients receiving electroconvulsive shock therapy (ECT). 15 control Ss (aged 17-45 yrs) were administered ECT without piracetam, while 15 Ss (aged 16-77 yrs) were administered 5 g piracetam intravenously before ECT treatment. Results indicate that the memory scores of Ss who received piracetam treatment were significantly higher than those of controls following ECT. (5 ref)
