The National Mental Health Programme, in partnership with the World Health Organization (WHO) and in collaboration with IDRAAC as the implementing partner, has officially launched "The first Training of Trainers on Self Help Plus (SH+) in Lebanon." This groundbreaking initiative aims to empower 20 mental health professionals with the skills and knowledge to deliver WHO's 5-session stress management course, SH+, to large groups in Lebanon.
The SH+ project represents a crucial component of the broader "Support for the Social Recovery of Vulnerable Groups in Beirut" project, which is coordinated in partnership with the International Rescue Committee. The financing for this essential mental health initiative is made possible through the Lebanon Financing Facility, administered by the World Bank.
SH+ is a comprehensive stress management program designed by WHO, and it is tailored for group settings. What sets SH+ apart is that it is delivered by supervised, non-specialist facilitators who have completed a beneficial 4-day training course. These facilitators use pre-recorded audio materials and an illustrated guide, "Doing What Matters in Times of Stress," to effectively teach essential stress management skills to participants.
To make SH+ even more impactful, the course has been carefully adapted to the Lebanese context, ensuring that it addresses the specific needs and challenges faced by individuals in the region. The audio scripts used in SH+ have been re-recorded in the Lebanese dialect, making them accessible and culturally relevant for use in Lebanon.
This significant milestone in mental health support marks a collaborative effort to enhance the well-being and resilience of individuals and communities in Lebanon, especially those who have been disproportionately affected by various challenges. The Training of Trainers on SH+ promises to be a cornerstone in strengthening mental health services and support in the region, providing essential tools and skills to address stress and promote overall well-being.
